Lapland Northern Lights & Arctic Glass Igloos

8 min read

Location

Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland

Best Time to Visit

Late September – March

Vibe Rating

★★★★★

There is a particular kind of silence that only exists above the Arctic Circle in winter. It presses against the glass of the igloo like a held breath.

Then, sometime after midnight, the sky begins to move. A pale green ribbon at first, then a curtain, then the whole dome above you is alive and rippling.

Book the igloo furthest from the lodge. Set an alarm for 1am anyway — and accept that you will not sleep much. That is the point.
