Location
Black Forest, Germany
Best Time to Visit
December – February
Vibe Rating
★★★★★
The road up from the valley narrows until it is little more than two tire tracks pressed into fresh snow. Then the trees open, and there it is: a chalet with every window lit amber, smoke curling from the chimney like a promise.
Winter here is not something you endure. It is something you sink into — long breakfasts of dark bread and cherry jam, afternoons on snowshoes through forests so dense the light turns blue, evenings by a fire that never quite goes out.
Stay at least three nights. The first one you spend adjusting to the silence. The second, you start to hear it. By the third, you will not want to leave.
